All The Head Shops Are Gone

Up until a few days ago there were five or six "head shops" close to my apartment but they are now all gone since last Tuesday.

Much to everyone's surprise the Irish government approved tough new legislation to prevent the sale of “legal highs” by the so called ‘head shops’.

As the operators faced the possibility of life imprisonment for the the sale or supply of substances that do not specifically fall under existing drugs legislation, but which have “psychoactive effects” they all decided that it was a good time to retire.


Head shops had begun to receive lots of attention in the media in recent times, with one famous report being that of a doctor describing on Prime Time of how he had encountered patients who suffered hallucinations, anxiety and psychosis after experiencing "legal highs" from head shop substances.

There was controversy and irony when a judge renowned for his strict anti-drug sentencing discovered that a premises he had rented to a business in Naas contained a head shop and ordered the head shop operator to get out.

A Dublin head shop exploded and caught fire early morning on 12 February 2010, engulfing a neighbouring building in fire and the surrounding streets and quays in smoke and causing the whole of Capel Street to be shut down for the day. The blaze brought to ground two other businesses with the head shop, including a sex shop, as one of Dublin's busiest streets was evacuated.

A second head shop burned down on 16 February 2010 in Dublin, though nobody was injured.

Another one burned down on 11 March 2010 in Sligo, and an adult shop went on fire also.

On the morning of March 11 2010 there were two pipe bombs found outside two separate head shops in the town of Athlone, bomb disposal experts closed two main streets in the town.

On the morning of April 16, 2010 in Dundalk, Co. Louth a head shop was set alight in a petrol bomb attack. The county is home to Minister for Justice Dermot Ahern and hours later plans for legislation for regulation of head shops got underway.

Thurs. 11/19/09 -

Roeder was still sick. Supposed to be back on friday. Did some computer work in econ. did nothing except busy work in fst. teach wasn't there.

Today was an alright lunch. I mean, it was kinda quiet again. Catherine wasn't there. Nor was kyle. I guess he went to white castle. fag... lol. He had a good reason too! That teacher whos really chill let him haha xD so he practically had an hour and 30 min lunch. luckyy...

Thennnn.... uhh... OH! I kept working on keychain, trying to figure out what Im going to do. I decided it was going to have a car theme. I'll get more sample pics on tomorrow for it.
Englishhhh was sooo much better today. Karolak was back from her trip or something and it was really good. We talked about what we did durring the week and we talked about sex offenders and pedophiles and interpreted a story haha. Oh and got her caught up on what we did.
Physics wasn't much cooler. notes and stuff.

Dred was lame like usual. Got home and practically did nothing. It was a really easy day actually. It was pretty nice haha. Slept at like 10 or so.


Fri. 11/20/09 -

Rode my bike today.
Roeder was there actually! we really didn't do anything. we just talked about teaching methods and stuff. Then did whatever we felt for the rest of the 30 min in the hour.
Did a test in econ then just did nothing else after except for some physics and such.
Nothing in FST except for... nothing lol.

Lunch was pretty good today. I mean, we didn't talk much like usual, but we had good reason. We all had Acorn's (school magazine). It was a pretty well made magazine haha. It made me want to join in as a photographer. Oh! And I realized that Holly, that girl I met afterschool on tuesday worked on the Acorn. She probably heard of me from Mrs. Modlin or saw me come in with my SD card or something. Anyways Rebecca came and sat next to me. I was shocked cause I didn't recognise her for a second haha. She had her hair straightened and down. i complimented her on it, smiled and said thanks. She seemed much happier after, well I thought haha.

Did some experimenting with my keychain and some bokeh and textures. I used the burn blending option a lot and it made this thing look really awesome! I had a pool with a light in it as the sun and the sky and it looked really cool haha. Detroit was infront of the layer. I just gotta show you haha.
English was really interesting today haha xD We talked more about rape and stuff, and yeah hahahaha. Thank god the writing assignment is due monday.Did some work in physics. nothing really big. Max told me that he was going bowling and stuff, then he told me that it was with Kyle and Katherine. I asked him if I could come, and he told me to ask kyle. He left at 4th period for the doctors office so I texted him. Well, just kept working with Max and Katheine and Hanna and stuff.

Dred was dreadful... lol. Finnished and aced my test, and just listened to my phone for the whole hour left. Did some physics for the weekend but whatever. I tried texting catherine and haley, but they didn't text me. Oh and Kyle still didn't respond, so I sent him another. I started texting Max about it, but I left it alone after 6 or so..

Sooo I was stuck at home again... Grandparents were having a bunch of people over for a party. I didn't know they were having one but I guess they were lol. I ate, finnished up a GIF, you know the one I've been failing at a whole bunch of times. lol. well I was glad I fixed it. I kept trying to find something to do with people on facebook, but it was futile... Except, claire holloway. She messaged me right when I got on. Well, I asked her if she can go out, and do something, or if infact she wanted to do something. So she and I went out, met at borders and we went walking, light painting and such. Got to know each other better as well. It was one hell of a way to spend a friday lol. Much better than spending it on facebook or something.
After she left, I rode around a bit more, car spotting. I saw some pretty nice cars walking with her. Saw a lotus exige, maserati quattroporte, grand cherroke SRT8, and some aftermarket tuned A6 or S6, I wasn't sure. I spotted a 09' CTS-v, and STS-V within 100 ft of each other. While trying to record the sound of the CTS-v, I screwed up, and Nearly fell of my bike as this car was passing by. It was a car full of obnoxious girls and a guy. kinda sounded like max... or sean.. idk. They said, "Hey! you ok??" I said "yeah", Then the guy in the car said, "wait.. Is that Joe?? I think thats Joe!" They drove around the block, came back and said "JOEEE! Its Shanon chesney!"So I was all like, wtf?? hahaha xD It must have been sean or something. Anyways, I went home after that, and fell asleep quickly after.
